Evanston, IL – November 30, 2022 – QuesTek Innovations, the primary operating subsidiary of QuesTek International LLC, today released a summary profile of its Materials by Design® qualifications and experience in the Corrosion Management application segment. The profile includes successful service engagements, internal R&D, proprietary materials patents, recognition, and now software.
To date, QuesTek has delivered over 42 successful engagements providing corrosion management and prevention solutions. Clients have included the US Army, Babcock and Wilcox, Boeing, Chevron, GE Aviation, Naval Nuclear Laboratory, Raytheon, Pratt & Whitney, and Shell. Materials systems addressed by these engagements include aluminum, magnesium, molybdenum, nickel, niobium, steel, tantalum, titanium, thermal barrier coatings, and refractory materials.
Internal R&D (IR&D) initiatives and engagements have resulted in 4 patents for QuesTek proprietary materials specifically designed for corrosion management and prevention. The most recent patent awarded to QuesTek in this category is US 11,499,212 B2- Complex Concentrated Alloys: Materials, Methods, and Techniques for Manufacture. Overall, the Company now holds 23 US Patents for advanced alloys. QuesTek also has 8 US Patents pending for additional novel materials.
QuesTek deliverables in corrosion management and prevention have been consistently recognized by the materials industry. As early as 2002, QuesTek was awarded a “Pollution Prevention Project of the Year Award” by the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) for its computational design of Ferrium S53. Our alloy was designed to have a unique combination of ultra-high strength and much greater resistance to general corrosion, stress corrosion cracking (SCC), fatigue and corrosion fatigue than 4340/300M steel. Ferrium S53 landing gears are flying without Cadmium plating on Air Force platforms to this day.
Primarily derived from QuesTek services engagements, the company has developed significant capability in modeling of corrosion mechanisms. That capability will be integrated in the Corrosion Toolkit in QuesTek’s ICMD® Digital Materials Design Platform. ICMD® was announced by QuesTek in September, with early test and evaluation underway now, and with full license and subscription availability set for the second half of 2023.
According to QuesTek COO Bill Mahoney, “If you or your organization are facing Corrosion challenges, whether in areas of process, structure, properties, or performance, QuesTek has proven that we can help you resolve those issues.”
