QuesTek at the Forefront of DOE-Funded Innovation

  • Post category:Blog

We’re proud to announce that QuesTek Innovations has been selected as a trusted partner in two groundbreaking DOE-funded initiatives. These projects focus on advancing clean energy technologies and revolutionizing automotive manufacturing through innovative materials and design.

As a selected collaborator, QuesTek will contribute its expertise in advanced materials development to drive innovation and create sustainable solutions for the future.

In a project awarded $1.6M over three years, Principal Investigators Diran Apelian (UCI) and Carl Söderhjelm (ACRC) are leading groundbreaking research on advanced tooling for lightweight automotive components. This effort, in collaboration with MIT, Solvus Global, and QuesTek Innovations, aims to re-engineer die casting molds using novel materials designed with the ICMD® software platform, 3D-printed die insert designs, and advanced thermal technologies. The outcome will revolutionize die casting, enabling eco-friendly giga-casting of aluminum alloys for large scale components such as automotive chassis, massively reducing cost of light weighting electric vehicles and in turn providing a path to affordable EVs for the masses – reducing energy consumption and carbon footprints.

Additionally, through the DOE’s Voucher Program, over 170 organizations have been matched with resources worth $20M+ to commercialize clean energy technologies. QuesTek is honored to have been selected as a trusted partner, providing Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) services via the voucher program. This program facilitates access to critical resources like testing facilities and subject matter expertise, helping drive innovations to market.

We’re excited to contribute to these initiatives, which are shaping the future of clean energy, sustainable manufacturing, and technological progress.
